Chicken in curry sauce

Would you believe it? I ate some chicken today... Tesco's cheapest chicken, with no flavour, a horrible texture and sense of gloom about it that saddened the heart of even the harshest gastronome.

So, garlic in oil, a chopped onion, mixed herbs, grated nutmeg, curry powder, pepper, chopped peppers (red and yellow) and a splash of bouillon stock, simmered for twenty minutes and finally augmented with a spoonful of honey and with a half a tub of natural yoghurt stirred in before serving. - Moderately tasty.

Accompanying this, came some rice cooked in water coloured with turmeric and sweetened with sugar, and some greens, lightly boiled and smugly soused in melted butter.

After this came the inevitable meringue (still going from Christmas), cream and the legendary sultanas in Jack Daniels.

Washed down with two glasses of white wine (Isla Negra).

I still feel stuffed, an entire 45 minutes later!

jack daniels

I had a delicious pudding this evening.

Nothing fancy, of course, but it hit the spot, and with minimum effort!

It was this... tea bread

BUT...

The tea bread was crumbled up and over it I sprinkled some sultanas that had been soaking in Jack Daniels for several months... mmm - delish!

And over THAT, I poured some cream!

Nuthin' fancy - but a tasty morsel.

Preceeding this, you may be interested to know I had some pasta with a topping of garlic, onion, mixed herbs with grated nutmeg and pepper, and a sliced orange pepper, with a few capers thrown in at the last minute. It needed a pudding... hence the above.

spaghetti al pomodoro caldo

This was a tasty repast, and I would like to thank my sister Helena for the inspiration behind the sauce.  The pasta was dressed in extra virgin olive oil and pepper. The sauce consisted of garlic and onion, with some dried mixed herbs and pepper, a can of chopped tomatoes, some chopped chilli pepper, and a little grated pecorino thrown in; finally augmented by a few torn basil leaves just before serving.  It was very flavoursome, with some grated cheddar thrown over at the point of serving.

Accompanying this I had a glass of fairly poisonous rose wine - the only bottle left in the bottom of the cupboard. It was rough.
After that experience I had some rather tasty pudding. Chopped cooking apple, sugar, and sultanas soaked in Jack Daniels, wrapped in filo pastry (I had a little too much of this so it was rather filling - but the principle remained sound), and accompanied by a little single cream. Mmm, nice.

pizza topping over pastry

Ingredients:

Pastry from the shop
Tomato puree
Mozzarella
Dried basil
Olive oil
Pepper

Roll out the pastry, slap everything on it and slam it in the oven for 20 minutes.
Delicious.

Follow it with a meringue, bottled blackcurrants in syrup and cream
Tasty.

And a little plain chocolate to finish...
